How To Fail To Win A Soul

Contend with them. Do not give them the Word of God. Do not pray for them. And do not give them the gospel.

Jude 1:3: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

2 Timothy 2:23-26: But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. 24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

So how can we contend for the faith and yet not strive?

2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

There are no circumstances where the Word of God is not appropriate. Reproof, exhortation and doctrine come from the Bible. Longsuffering (patience) is our part. If an unbeliever is going to argue, it MUST be an argument with the Word of God, not with me. An unbeliever would prefer to argue with me. It is easy to win an argument with me. It is impossible to win an argument with God.

When we don*t know of an appropriate passage from the Bible or a Biblical truth to share, we should probably remain silent. When I was a novice at sharing the gospel, the Lord saw to it that I had very few issues raised that I could not answer Biblically. As I learn more Bible truth I have more issues come up that I couldn*t have answered before but can answer now. Study your Bible.

Unbelievers often believe that they are arguing with me when they are arguing with the Lord. The Bible says: foolish and unlearned questions avoid. Foolish and unlearned questions would find their source in me or in the unbeliever. Foolish and unlearned questions will change the subject away from the gospel and away from Bible truth.

Proverbs 15:1: A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

A soft answer does not have to be a weak or a false answer. A soft glove can have a hard fist in it and a soft answer can have spiritual power in it.

Romans 12:21: Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

If you try to fight fire with fire you will have two fires or one bigger one.
